KATHRYNA BLUM BARONE, Director, made her operatic début in 1951 with the Philadelphia Civic Grand Opera at the Academy of Music and her New York City Opera début in 1953. She was critically acclaimed for her performances of operatic, recital, and oratorio repertoire.

Mrs. Barone has been a member of the faculty at the Bryn Mawr Conservatory of Music since 1950. She was married to the Conservatory’s founder, Dr. Joseph Barone, from 1961 until his death in 1988.

Mrs. Barone personally meets with each prospective student individually in order to assess the student’s musical potential, and to advise the student (and, if the student is young, his or her family) how best to fulfill that potential. Once a student has been admitted to the Conservatory, she recommends the course of study and the teacher or teachers best suited to that student’s particular needs.
